WEEK 36

So how about conference everyone? 

Hope you all got to watch it and got to hear Elder Wong speak in CANTONESE!!! That was the coolest thing ever. Gave me a reality check that just a year ago from now I had just gotten my mission call and found out I would be speaking that crazy language for 18 months. 

I felt the importance of families was a big focus for this session. Which was so awesome because this past week we found a family to teach!!!!!!! They have a 7 year old daughter and 12 year old daughter.  We are so grateful we were led to the place they would be and that they were willing to let us come into their home! They were interested at first because they knew we could speak English and had English class. We helped their 12 year old daughter with some English and then the mother begged us to stay for dinner! She cooked a humble dinner with the choi (veggies) she grew in her backyard. We showed their family just about every object we carried with us in our bags-the 7 year old loved them. We  got to know them over dinner and found out that the Dad works for hours and hours on end and is very exhausted all the time. The mother is very stressed about her kids and their school work. But for a tiny moment as we shared our testimonies of the Book of Mormon, we handed a Book of Mormon to the mother and daughter, the Spirit entered into their homes and they got to feel the peace of the gospel. The 12 year old daughter could not put the Book of Mormon down and read all of the introduction and testimony pages. She was so excited and kept explaining things like, "whoa it was written on gold plates!" "Wow did he really see an angel!?" it was so cool to see the power of the Book of Mormon and to see that it will bless this sweet family! The mother is very willing the let us come back. She said she likes how her daughter responds to us. Sister Adams and I walked out of their home with empty hands and full hearts.

Hong Kong never ceases to amaze me. There are new people to meet everyday. There are nooks and crannies to find people in. We got a whole village to help us find a less active member's home, everyone was stumped, it was no where to be found. Then we arrived at the "village leader's" home/ palace. He brought out his ginormous map book and long bamboo pointer stick, flipped a couple pages, then informed us that the home is no longer existent. 

One thing you should know about Hong Kongers: you never have to worry about getting lost because they literally will drop everything they have to help you find a place you are looking for. they are the nicest! now only if they would react the same way for the gospel. :)
